A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Nicole Plourde, Nathan Morin, Brian Leclerc, Martha Laflamme, John Moulis, Marion Y. Huntley, Steve Michaud, Corinne Cascadden, Tim Forestall, John Donaldson, Dan Record, Beverly Dupont, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Jane Provencher, Donna Couture, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 19, 2007 meeting public session. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS A motion was made by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nathan Morin, to approve the warrants dated December 24, 2007, and January 7, 2008 for the amounts of $2,943.40, $116,343.21 and $230,565.74 respectively. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FY09 BUDGET The administrators presented their FY09 Budget request to the Board. They gave their rationale and details of the major changes in the new budget.

NEW BUSINESS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Brian Leclerc, the board voted to give the press a copy of a letter sent to the BGRS Cooperative School District from the Berlin Board of Education on the issue of the sharing of opportunities for Gorham and Berlin students. The motion passed unanimously.
Martha Laflamme inquired on the status of the FY09 School Year Calendar. A motion was made by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, to place the approval of the FY09 calendar on the table (tabled at last meeting). Discussion ensued on the amount of days for Christmas break. A motion was then made by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Martha Laflamme, to approve the calendar as presented to the Board. The motion passed unanimously.
Mitch Couture requested the administration speak with the City Comptroller regarding some information he received on a municipal leasing workshop.
Brian Leclerc was presented with a gift in appreciation for his years of service on the Berlin Board of Education.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to go in to nonpublic session at 8:00 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II(a),(b), (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative. The parents of a Berlin Public School student, a student, staff and administrators joined the Board for a portion of the nonpublic session.
On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 9:40 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. One additional vote was taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes:

ADJOURN On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 9:41 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
